Nestled around the corner of Victoria Drive and Kingsway, The Tipper Restaurant is a casual eatery showcasing local art and music, and offering classic comfort food. We stumbled upon The Tipper on Google Maps when Dan wanted to dine out for breakfast and we didn’t want to go to our usual spot. There’s parking in front of the restaurant, but not in the back. If the front is busy (which can be throughout weekdays!), we parked on the residential street a block away. Upon entering the restaurant, we were instantly greeted and were surrounded by adorable artwork by children. Our server promptly gave us menus and, noticing Theo, asked if we wanted a high chair since we didn’t see any…

Summary In 1925, renowned British explorer Percy Harrison Fawcett and his two companions disappeared in the Amazon jungles in search of a hidden ancient civilization he dubbed Z. Since then, hundreds of explorers and rescuers also vanished in search of Fawcett and his team, and the Lost City of Z.  Journalist and author David Grann set out to solve the mystery of Fawcett’s disappearance and the Lost City of Z. What happened to Fawcett, and did the Lost City of Z truly exist? Thoughts I’ve come to love David Grann’s work over the last several months. I binged his entire collection of books he’s written this year. Grann’s talent for journalism translates well into the books he’s written. He has…

Summary Troubled by Rob Henderson is a memoir of foster care, family, and social class, as explained by Rob Henderson. Henderson grew up in the foster care system in Los Angeles and later went on to graduate from Yale and Cambridge University. Henderson shares what it’s like growing up in foster homes, the impacts of a stable and unstable home, and the differences between upper and lower social classes of America, as he was able to experience both. Thoughts As with many of the books I read, I stumbled across this memoir on a Goodreads list. Without much thought, I marked it as to-read since I’m a sucker for memoirs. When it was available to borrow from my library, I…

Have you ever heard of decision fatigue? It boils down to the more decisions you make throughout the day, the worse they become because we only come with a finite amount of good decisions. It’s why Steve Jobs has a work uniform (the famous black turtleneck sweater) so he doesn’t need to decide what to wear every morning. When I embarked on my fashion journey, I found it overwhelming to mix and match items (it also didn’t help that my closet used to be filled with trendy pieces instead of staples) which resulted in me wearing very similar outfits multiple times. And since I felt I had nothing to wear, I always felt this inclination to shop. One day, I…

For my 30th birthday, Dan treated me to a session of feet reflexology at Big Feet (Kingsway location) after I went on and on about how much I wanted to try a session. I’ve had short foot massages in the past and always found them to be relaxing and I knew of an acquaintance who swears by Big Feet massages so you can say I was very much intrigued with this franchise. What exactly is reflexology? According to Big Feet,  Reflexology is a therapy in which pressure is applied to reflex points on the hands, feet, and ears.It is based on the principle that these reflex points are related to the internal organs and glands, and are laid out in…

I first learned about Obe Fitness when my Instagram was being flooded with their fun, bright and catchy ads boasting over 100+ live classes and on-demand classes from barre, to dance cardio. At that time, I chose to skip Obe Fitness because I was a dedicated Pure Barre fan and found my go-to workout. Plus, I already had ClassPass to give me my fix of gyms and weights. Being in an environment outside of my living room makes exercising very easy. To say, I hate home workouts. But, the pandemic hit and my city went into lockdown. I still had my full-time job but my attitude towards online barre classes changed and I didn’t feel like it was worth paying…
