Too Cold for Comfort by Nisha J. Tuli – A Book Review
Book Title: Too Cold for Comfort
Author: Nisha J. Tuli
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Rating: ★★★ (3/5)
Summary: The arctic heats up when a photographer who rarely holds anything back is forced to share a private wing with a grumpy lodge owner who holds everything in.
Photographer Aadya Williams has trekked all the way to northern Canada to nab a career-making shot of a polar bear . . . and to put 1,500 miles between her and a messy breakup. Despite expecting freezing temperatures, nothing’s colder than the welcome she gets from Reid Doerksen, the gruff owner of the Northern Wilderness Polar Bear Lodge. Even worse, the lodge is overbooked, so now she has to share the private family wing with him for the next two weeks.
At least Aadya has plenty to keep her occupied when she’s not out searching for the perfect photo op. But when a storm strands Aadya and Reid together at the lodge, it’s impossible to avoid the heat simmering between them. As the snow comes down, so do Reid’s walls, and Aadya begins to realize the most important shot of her life may not be one she takes with her camera (Goodreads).

Thoughts:
This was a cute read, but I wouldn’t really call it a romance. To me, it was much more about lust than love. The attraction between Aadya and Reid was very one-sided at the beginning, and I never felt like their relationship developed any deeper. You’re telling me that spending two weeks together and then texting and calling for a few months is enough to fall in love? I’m not buying it.
The beginning was a little rough for me because I kept getting second-hand embarrassment from how horny Aadya was to Reid, while Reid spent the first few chapters doing nothing but scowling at her. It made their dynamic feel pretty one-sided, and I had a hard time getting invested. Then, all of a sudden, they went from barely talking to wanting to sleep together every chance they got. I wish there had been more time spent building their relationship because it felt like the emotional connection was skipped over.
That was probably my biggest issue with the book. Their relationship felt very surface-level, and I never got the sense that they actually knew each other that well. There wasn’t much conflict or relationship development either, so the story felt a bit flat. I kept waiting for something to happen that would make me care more about them as a couple, but it never really got there.
I did appreciate the little nods to Manitoba, Canada, and the mentions of the freezing Canadian winters. It was also nice to see the Southeast Asian family dynamics woven into the story, as those moments gave the book some personality.
Overall, I thought this was an okay read. It’s cute, quick, and easy to get through, but it wasn’t anything I’d rave about. The romance didn’t work for me, and I never found myself swooning over the couple. It was enjoyable enough, but I don’t think it’ll stick with me.
