When we moved to Melbourne, it was just in time for summer. Quickly, I was getting annoyed with shaving every day. Plus, Dan bought a pack of 2-blade razors that are shite, and I wanted to get through the 12-pack before buying new razors.
Ladies – be sure your man knows how to shop for razors before sending them out to the store.
I’ve always wanted to get laser hair removal because the idea of no longer shaving sounds wonderful to me… seriously, who likes to shave constantly?
However, I’m a wimp and put it off forever until recently. I stuck to shaving and plucking because I thought laser hair removal would hurt tremendously. It’s a laser beam! But that said, I did get LASIK, and have been waxing, so how painful can it be?
With enough courage, I booked a consultation, for those in Melbourne, at ClearSkinCare Clinic (South Yarra). It was meant to be a consultation, but I told myself that if it came down to my first session, I’d do it right then and there because I didn’t want to make the commute again.
My initial thoughts? It’s fast. It took less than 5 minutes to do both armpits. I don’t even think it’s 30 seconds per side!
I could instantly smell a faint scent of something burning – my hair. It’s a bit off-putting but goes away once she’s done lasering.
The cool air sensation helps. I actually can’t imagine doing it without that cool air blowing on your areas.
The actual lasering and pain? It sort of stung, not going to lie. I suppose all those who say it’s like having a rubber band snap at your skin consistently for 30 seconds are correct. At first, it didn’t hurt, but after about 3 seconds, you start to feel the sting.
However, it’s not unbearable. I would have to say that I enjoy getting my Brazilian waxes more than getting lasered. I might pop a painkiller the next time I go. The pain is brief – really brief. It stings for a few seconds but, once the whole ordeal is over, the discomfort fades. I would call it more discomfort than pain and would rate it 4/10.
If you’ve gotten waxed, tattooed, or pierced, you can survive an underarm laser treatment.
The price? The clinic had a big sale, and underarm treatments were only $9 per session, which is how they caught my attention in the first place.
But, it’s $9 per session if you buy in a package of 10. So, I ended up paying $90. They make you prepay instead of signing a contract. I’ve been told it’s a very common practice in this industry, and if not, I think all of them do it this way.
I think $90 is reasonable for ten sessions. I probably wouldn’t buy it if the clinic didn’t have a sale, to be honest. Laser hair removal can be expensive.
They told me that if I don’t need all ten treatments, I can put the balance towards another laser treatment, but unfortunately, no refunds.
The results? Oh my gosh, am I ever glad to do it! After the first session, I barely had any armpit hairs left. I had a few strands that the laser didn’t get the first time, so I’m excited to see how the subsequent treatments go.
After the first session, I shave only once a week. So, with the second session done, there’s a high chance I’d have to shave seldom.
It’s incredible to see such a big difference after a few sessions. I’m starting to regret prepaying for ten because I honestly don’t believe I need all ten sessions to get results. My old waxing clinic started doing “pay as you go” for laser hair removal and she told me it’s cheaper and better in the end because every candidate is different, and clinics do not refund you if you don’t use it all.
For example, even if I paid more than $9 per pay-as-you-go session, it still comes out cheaper than prepaying for everything if I only require 3-4 sessions for my underarms to see permanent results.
I love hopping out of the shower and not worrying about shaving my armpits anymore. You’re pretty much paying for the convenience, and you need to ask yourself, “Do I dislike shaving enough to drop $90?” Because I do.
Let me know if you’ve ever done laser hair removal and what your experience was like! For those who have done Brazilian or full-leg laser hair removal, please let me know how it went!

LOL, the hair burning is something I’ll never forget! It’s such a bizarre experience when it first hits you. Good luck with your sessions if you go for it! The instant results is so satisfying.
