I’ll be honest – I was not the biggest fan of Aveeno. When I tried it nearly 10 years ago, I felt it didn’t moisturize and even though I grabbed it at the dollar store, I felt it wasted my money and was a “cheap” brand.
(You can guess how surprised I was to learn Jennifer Aniston is their ambassador!)
So, I spent money buying higher-brand lotions from drugstores. It was within my budget since I was buying it for myself but since moving in with Dan who has more sensitive skin than me, I found my lotion budget increasing due to another person using it. As I got older and had other priorities to focus on, spending money on higher-brand lotions didn’t fit into my budget anymore. So, when my bottles became empty, I started looking at other more affordable and cheaper brands to get.
When I was looking for a new moisturizer, I focused on a few things:
- Availability – is it available in my local drugstore and grocery store? Because I’m not visiting a specialty store just to stock up.
- Affordability – as mentioned above, my spending priority shifted and I no longer want to fork over $30-40 towards lotions every few months.
- Instant moisturizing – I moisturize in the mornings and evenings so not waiting for my skin to absorb the product is great. In colder months, it’s nice to get instant relief when we’re out in the cold for a while.
- 24+ hydration – because who wants dry skin halfway through the day?
- Suitable for all skin – my skin is more on the oily side whereas Dan is on the drier side so having a one-size-fits-all lotion makes it efficient in our lives.
Aveeno caught my eye. My good friends love Aveeno so I decided to give it another shot. Maybe I had a faulty bottle 10 years ago? Maybe their formula improved. Either way, I gave it a shot.
My first reaction? This is not the same Aveeno I knew from 10 years ago! The Daily Moisturizing Cream started moisturizing my skin instantly. It did not feel greasy which I love since it meant I could put my foundation on quickly without waiting for my skin to absorb all the product. The cream has prebiotic oat + shea butter.
Additionally, the cream is thick so a little goes a long, long way. It’s perfect for me and Dan who use a lot of cream due to his dry and sensitive skin. The Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Cream is suitable for all skin types, which also means less clutter around the bathroom sink!
Since becoming a mom, I’ve been more aware of scented products. Theo isn’t sensitive to scent, but many babies can be, and many mothers as well. As a mom, I visit a lot of scent-free environments so having a scent-free lotion takes the worry out of me when I get ready in the morning. If you wear perfume, having a scent-free lotion ensures scents are clashing.
Lastly, I love waking up and feeling my skin is still hydrated. It’s a physiological thing, but it makes me feel as though I’m saving money if my skin stays hydrated for more than half a day.
The Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Cream is available at most retailers for $24 CAD.

Nice review! I’ve seen this brand a lot at the drugstore but never tried it before. My children has eczema and very sensitive skin, so a scent-free lotion is a must!
