Millennial Money Diary on Maternity Leave for June 2024

I don’t know about you but I love CNBC’s Millennial Money and Refinery29’s Money Diaries. 

Maybe it’s because I love to snoop but there’s something about learning how someone spends their money is interesting. Since I enjoy it so much, I’d share my monthly money diaries! 

Without ado, here’s my June 2024 money diary.

Week of June 1 – 8

• AliExpress – $2.84. Purchased a cute little keychain for my new bag!
• Etsy – $10.20. Okay, the best finance tracker I’ve ever used. So worth the $10 (and it was discounted already!).
• Starbucks – $9.98
• RMT Massage – $38.60. Thank goodness for extended health benefits covering most of my acupuncture sessions!
• Taobao – $7.28
• Taobao – $3.09
• FedEx – $17.68
• Samsung – $87.11
• Music classes for Theo – $21.75
• Naruto Sushi – $62.87. I had a tough day with Theo so I decided to splurge on our usual sushi dinner.
• Taobao – $3.57
• Groceries – $49.53.
• NameCheap – $47.86. Eleventh Avenue’s SSL was expiring.
• Chatr Phone Bill – $33.60.
• Strata (basically HOA for condos) – $342.73.

Week of June 9 – 15

• Starbucks – $10.00
• Fan for Theo’s room – $22.51
• Snacks – $2.25
• BC Ferries – $238.90. A little weekend getaway in July. Oof, I did not realize that BC Ferries tickets are not roundtrip, lol.
• 88 Supermarket – $17.18. Seriously, this supermarket has been my go-to for sushi cravings given the price point and quality.
• Groceries – $13.31
• Snacks – $7.49
• Snacks – $5.70
• Downlow Chicken – $84.75. Father’s Day dinner – the best fried chicken in town!
• Chess.com – $184.71. 1-year subscription gift for Father’s Day.
• Superstore – $22.40. Flowers for Father’s Day… men like receiving flowers, too!

• Superstore – $20.00
• Uncle Tetsu – $22.50. One of Dan’s favourite treats.
• American Express – $12.99. Monthly credit card fee.

Week of June 16 – 22

• Skincare product for Dan – $19.70
• Value Village – $30.95. I found a beautiful, like-new, Oak + Fort blazer!
• Value Village – $4.19. Cute little Ralph Lauren sandals for Theo. They were a little big so probably when he’s a toddler, he’d fit them.
• Snacks – $15.08
• Handheld vacuum for easy clean-ups! – $67.74
• 88 Supermarket – $17.66. Sushi for lunch again… the cravings are real!
• Etsy – $28.46. I purchased an Every Child Matters shirt and am super excited to receive it. A portion of the proceeds gets donated.

Total: $183.78

Week of June 23 – 30

• Home Insurance – $23.54. I have a high deductible which is why my home insurance is cheap. Plus, they lower my rate every year!
• Naruto Sushi – $37.99
• Car Insurance – $115.41

Total: $176.94

Reflections:

This month was alright! I wanted to splurge a bit for Dan’s 1st Father’s Day. Reflecting, I think I need to tone down the sushi lunches – $16-17 is still a bit for a solo lunch! Also, our car insurance sent us a rebate for being a profitable year so my car insurance is less $110 this month – woot!
