Value Village Thrifted Clothes Haul | July 2024

Aug. 09, 2024 / fashion

Is living 5 minutes away from a huge thrift store a blessing or a curse? Ever since Theo nailed a daily routine and his wake windows were getting longer, I found myself doing anything to kill time until his next sleep.

Naturally, that meant many visits to Value Village. Sometimes, it was a success and sometimes, it wasn’t. That’s the fun of thrifting!

Without further ado, here’s my July haul from Value Village! We got a few toys for Theo, and some random shirts for Dan, but I won’t list them here.

Old Navy High-Waisted Tie-Dyed Sweat Shorts

Thrifted price: $11.99

Retail price: $32.99

Thoughts: I’ve been needing a new pair of shorts to sleep in but did not want to spend $20 so finding this Old Navy pair was a steal!

GAP High Rise Linen Shorts

Thrifted price: $10.99

Suggested retail price: $64.95

Thoughts: I’ve been hunting for a pair of beige linen shorts for my capsule wardrobe, so you can believe the excitement when I stumbled across this randomly at Value Village. A pair of linen shorts is still professional and a great way to keep cool in the heat (depending on your workplace’s dress code). It’s in great condition and GAP has such good quality clothing. It’s not see-through!

It’s my favourite item from last month’s haul and one of my best thrifting finds.

RW & Co. Brown Hoothsound Pants with Belt

Thrifted price: $16.99

Suggested retail price: $99.90

Thoughts: I remember seeing these exact pants in the store but passed on them due to the price (even on sale, it was still $75!). I feel these pants are great for autumn, and add texture to my wardrobe and outfits. Bonus points for the length being PERFECT on me!

RW & Co. Light Purple Sweater Blazer

Thrifted price: $19.99

Suggested retail price: $169.90

Thoughts: I fell in love with Meghan Markle’s sweater blazer from 2023 and have been subconsciously looking for one. It’s not a priority item for me but when I found this sweater blazer, I threw it in the cart right away. I love the muted light purple colour.

French Connection Faux Leather Jacket

Thrifted price: $19.99

Suggested retail price: $150-$180

Thoughts: So, this was an interesting find for me. I’ve been on the lookout for a leather jacket since I outgrew my old Danier jacket. This is super stylish and a bit oversized. It’s marked as a jacket but I feel it belongs to the cardigan family so I’d probably be wearing this as a cardigan instead of a jacket.

Dockers Purple Button Up

Thrifted price: $11.99

Suggested retail price: $65-$70

Thoughts: This is actually from the men’s section! It’s a nice and warm button-up that can be used to layer. I can also button it up and tuck it into my pants as a top.

Hilfiger Denim Green Button Up

Thrifted price: $10.99

Suggested retail price: $85-$100

Thoughts: The corduroy is so soft! I couldn’t resist getting this top after trying it on. I love that it adds a different texture to my outfit and closet, and it can be worn as a top or used for layering. Of course, I probably won’t pair the top with these pants, lol!

RW & Co. Grey Dress

Thrifted price: $17.99

Suggested retail price: $89.90-$99.90

Thoughts: Dan convinced me to get the dress and I’m so happy he did! The fit is perfect. The material is soft and stretchy. It’s a perfect little dress for the office and formal events.

I know there’s some controversy over Value Village’s pricing strategy, but I think all my pieces are priced well for the brand, quality, and condition. If I did a price comparison to Shein, for example, many items are cheaper than Shein, even though they’re not brand new. Better yet, these brands are of a higher quality than Shein. If your Value Village is pricing things ridiculously, I highly encourage talking to a staff!

Do you like thrifting? What’s been your best thrifted item?

With love, Claire

This is giving me life! The GAP linen shorts sound like such a score—finding pieces for your capsule wardrobe at a fraction of the price is definitely the best! xx

I’m happy you like the post! Scoring high quality items at a fraction of the price is what makes thrifting so addictive, haha!

The snow has melted... it's time for me to finally start driving to work 😩

(Dan is supportive enough to continue daycare pick-ups if I absolutely hate driving to work 🥹🤎)
